Oriola invests in a new e-commerce warehouse in Sweden
27.9.2021
The Swedish pharmacy market is undergoing a fast transformation towards e-commerce. The pandemic has accelerated the change and in the first half of 2021 the share of e-commerce reached 18% of all sales in the pharmacy market in Sweden. To support e-commerce business growth, Oriola is investing in a new warehouse for e-commerce operations in Enköping, Sweden. The new warehouse will deliver online orders to consumer customers of Kronans Apotek pharmacy chain, which Oriola owns.
“Our e-commerce grew by 85% in 2020 and the plan is to continue rapid expansion. To become one of the best players in e-commerce in the pharmacy market, we need to increase the capacity of our e-commerce warehouse. The investment will also enable us to create even better flows and processes to optimise e-commerce and support its profitable development,” says Elisa Markula, President and CEO of Oriola and interim leader of Business Area Consumer.
Currently, the e-commerce warehouse is in Oriola’s distribution centre in Enköping. The new e-commerce warehouse will free capacity for Oriola’s other distribution operations, and will cover around 15,000 square metres with the opportunity to expand. Oriola is renting the facility from Logicenters. The building project starts in the autumn 2021 and the new e-commerce warehouse will be ready during the second half of 2022. The warehouse will be built according to BREEAM's sustainability model and certifications to ensure the best possible environmental performance.
